Lauren: mother, teacher, blogger, poet, recovering academic. Works happily in an administrative gig at a university.
She spent her formative years in Tulsa, OK — the buckle of the Bible belt — and now lives in the American heartland. She has a BS in English Education and attempted, twice, to complete PhD programs (and left, twice). Lauren started Mama Nervosa in 2012 to document life after grad school; talk about motherhood, music, and pop culture; and write a funny memoir. Since then, she’s become interested in mental health, identity, and Gen X nostalgia. She was sorted into Slytherin and is on Team Peeta. Her writing has been featured at Offbeat Families, and she is a contributing editor for the website and companion e-book, How to Leave Academia. She lives in a small town in Iowa with two young daughters, her husband, and two fluffy gray cats.
